Vietnamese-origin goalkeeper Filip Nguyen is about to get his Vietnamese passport. He is expected to be called up to the Vietnam national team in early September for the 2022 World Cup Qualifier.
Vietnam NT is arranged to gather together to get ready for battles at the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers. A piece of terrific news comes timely that is the keeper Filip Nguyen going to complete the legitimate procedures to gear up with the national team.
According to Thanh Nien news, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) is undergoing the necessary procedures for Filip Nguyen to become the Vietnamese naturalized player.
If nothing changes, Filip Nguyen will represent at Vietnam to finish the process next week. In the context of Vietnam NT facing many difficulties, Filip Nguyen’s presence will be a perfect factor for the Korean strategist to reinforce the strength of the defending guard.
The Vietnam NT coach said: “I absolutely welcome overseas Vietnamese players to play for the national team. To carry out this plan, it will take some time for the processes to summon overseas Vietnamese players to the national team. The first step is finishing the legitimate procedures. The second thing is to evaluate the abilities, qualities, communicating and professional skills of players, to consider whether or not they can comply with these criteria.”
Filip Nguyen recently shared his massive love for his father's homeland:
“I decided to live in Europe because of Slovan Liberec where I can get the opportunity to develop my career or play for better clubs. But I always desire to wear Vietnam’s red jersey. It is not just because of the 2022 World Cup, but because I always have the Vietnamese blood from my father flowing in my body and my love for Vietnam.”
In the kick-off match of the 2nd 2022 World Cup Qualifiers Asian zone, Vietnam NT is set to encounter a representative from the seed group 3. The drawing stage will be held on July 17 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
